In 1968, Jos en Jo Koonings started a clothing workshop in a shed right outside their house in Zeilberg, The Netherlands. Quality and craftsmanship were the keywords from the start. Starting with only evening wear, they find out they need to add wedding dresses very quickly. That’s when Koonings Bridal Fashion was created. Due to the great success, further expansions were necessary and Jos en Jo moved to a spacious building in the centre of Deurne. At the age of 14, Ineke started in the workplace of her aunt Jo van Bakel (later Mrs. Koonings). This workplace is where the dress alterations were done. Ineke learned the tips and tricks. Ineke’s daughter Ramona also started working at the age of 14. She started as an intern and served coffee to the customers. She quickly developed into an ambitious saleswoman.
By the time Ramona turned 17, she gets the chance to take over the business, together with her mother. As a young entrepreneur, she quickly takes responsibility and adds wedding suits to the collection. A big step and that’s when she renamed Koonings to ‘Koonings Bride and Groom’.
Over the years, the family business has been expanded with the men’s store, a ladies’ store and evening wear. Koonings opened a new location in Den Bosch. Koonings was growing so fast, Ramona decided to move to a location right outside the centre of Deurne. At that time, other companies were located in the same building. But in 2013 Ramona has the opportunity to rent the building in its entirety.
Time for some major renovations! In 2014 the renovation was finished and it’s time for the grand opening of the renewed palace. A big achievement and Ramona renamed ‘Koonings Bride and Groom’ to ‘Koonings The Wedding Palace’ with a new branding and a new subtitle ‘Where Dreams Come True..’
Ramona’s personal words to live by are ‘if you can dream it, you can do it’. It’s her personal quote. She started working on new plans. A couple of years later, in 2018, she realized a big ambitious expansion of the bridal palace, right besides the already existing building. The new bridal palace has more than 6.000 m2. Ramona’s passion is to offer customers a total experience. Let them experience a dream world in preparation for every festive occasion.
After another spectacular opening in October 2018, a new corporate identity and website has launched. Koonings can now proudly call itself the world’s largest bridal store! A one-stop-for-all of 11.000 m2 with a huge collection of wedding dresses, suits, menswear and bridesmaids fashion. We also offer festive kids wear, evening and cocktail dresses, shoes, accessories and goodies.
Within the walls of Koonings The Wedding Palace, the total experience is completed with a snack at Ineke’s, shopping at our goodiestore or enjoy a full on beauty experience in our beauty & hairsalon.
